fitness babble
3:06 pm 08.10.03

Yesterday I went to the mall, and at Champs, bought a pair of New Balance running shoes for $40.

I also got a knee brace.

And this week I'm going to begin training to run 5k.

I can't tell you how incredibly excited I am by this. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to do it, despite my weight, because I've already been walking 45-60 minutes home from work two or three times a week... so what's adding a little jog? I know I should see a doctor beforehand but I don't know how a doc visit would work out with my insurance and I really can't afford to pay it out of pocket.

After prodding around I discovered that the track at Larkins is permanently closed. They're in the process of rebuilding the entire place and that's just not going to exist anymore.

"Fine," I says. "I'll use the track at the French Field House. And it's a spiffy track, too. That's where the varsity teams run.

Of course, that track is closed as well. Ggrr. Guess I'll just have to run around outside after all!

Oh, and if you're a nosy fuck, you can follow my progress here.

You're probably going to get real tired of hearing about all of this fitness babble, but it makes me feel good to talk about. I could tell you about the two bigots I saw today (a young man and an old lady) but I'm in a good mood and I don't want to spoil it with them. Bigots make me sad and angry.
